The Religious Education Program includes 2-hours of Safety Education. The safety information is presented to children in an age appropriate manner in the context of God’s infinite love for them. Because God created them, they are sacred—their bodies are sacred and their very life is sacred. God’s desire is that each one of us should recognize that we are Holy in God’s eyes and take every measure to care for and protect our bodies and our lives.
In grades K-6 this information is presented in 2 one-hour sessions during the regular class time. The first hour is taught by the catechist within the classroom setting. The second hour for grades K-3 and for grade 5 is presented in a large group setting by a trained facilitator during the regular class time, but with a number of classes together. Parents are invited to be present for the first session in the classroom. Parents are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to attend the large group session, so that they are equipped to continue the conversation at home. The second session for grade 4 is a video, "Stranger Safety." The second session for grade 6 is a video, "Internet Safety." Parents are also encouraged to watch these videos with the class. The scripts for the first sessions are posted above. More detailed information is mailed to the parents of children in Grades K-6 prior to the meetings including the schedule of Safety sessions. |
